Tana Irrigation Scheme held an environmental awareness day on 15th November, 2017. The activity took place at Hola town. The staff, farmers and other institutions : Kenya Forestry Service, National Environmental Management Authority, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Public Service Commission, Kenya Red Cross Society and Tbs county radio Hola, participated in the exercise.

Approximately 2,000 seedlings were planted as well as distributed to the young farmers in scheme's Area 6 section . This was followed by a clean-up exercise of a kilometre of the Liberia road.This  also involved collecting polythene bags around the town.

Tana Irrigation Scheme was established in 1953 and covers 12, 000 acres. Apart from maize which is the main crop, the scheme also grows cotton and other horticultural crops.
